I asked Paul in Seattle at the Elliot Bay Bookstore during his recent tour / signing about this book and he knocked on the wood table about this book coming out or being finished soon. It seemed like maybe it was not even finished yet and seemed surprised it was listed on the internet already.

Maybe what you are describing is the new big thing? For instance I saw that another favorite author, William Boyd, has a new book out - in spring 2006. If this is the way publishers press their writers, I have no problem understanding why Mr. Theroux has to push books like Fresh-Air Fiend, which just is 200 pages too long.
And I don't blame him for knocking wood about the issue.
